Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about veterinary physiotherapy.
Veterinary physiotherapy is a specialised field of healthcare that centres around the treatment of musculoskeletal and neurological conditions in animals. It aims to improve mobility, manage pain, enhance performance, and optimise the overall well-being and quality of life for animal patients.
Signs of pain in animals can include limping, reluctance to move or play, changes in posture, vocalisation (whimpering, growling), decreased appetite, excessive licking of a particular area, and changes in behaviour such as increased aggression or withdrawal. If you notice any of these signs, consult your veterinarian.
Your pet may benefit from physiotherapy if they have undergone surgery, suffer from arthritis or joint stiffness, have a neurological condition, are recovering from injury, show signs of pain or reduced mobility, or if they are a sporting/working animal requiring performance optimisation.
Yes, veterinary physiotherapy is a safe and non-invasive modality when performed by a qualified professional. All treatments are tailored to the individual patient and their specific condition, with careful consideration of contraindications and your animal's comfort level throughout the session.
While a veterinary referral is not always required, we work closely with your treating veterinarian to ensure the best outcomes for your animal. We encourage you to discuss physiotherapy with your vet, and we are happy to liaise with them directly regarding your pet's treatment plan.
Your first appointment includes a comprehensive assessment where we review your animal's medical history, observe their movement, and perform a hands-on physical examination. Based on our findings, we'll discuss a tailored treatment plan, set goals, and may begin a short initial treatment session.
We treat a wide range of animals, including dogs, cats, horses, and exotic pets. Each treatment programme is carefully tailored to the specific species and the individual needs of your animal.
Payment is due at the time of the appointment. We accept electronic fund transfers (EFT), card payments, and SnapScan. For shop purchases, all payments are processed securely through PayFast.
Session frequency depends on your animal's specific condition and treatment goals. Typically, acute conditions may require weekly sessions initially, which can then be tapered. Chronic conditions may benefit from regular fortnightly or monthly maintenance sessions. Your treatment plan will be discussed at your initial assessment.
It is normal for some animals to experience mild stiffness or fatigue after a session, similar to how you might feel after a workout. This usually resolves within 24–48 hours. We always ensure that treatments are performed within your animal's comfort level and will advise on post-session care.
Some pet insurance policies do cover veterinary physiotherapy. We recommend checking with your insurance provider to see if physiotherapy is included in your policy. We can provide detailed invoices and treatment notes for submission to your insurance company.
